ELEMENTS OF KERALA

Kerala is probably the greenest place you will ever see. It is one of the 10 paradises in the world. The coconut palms, the red tiled houses, the innumerable lakes, winding backwater canals and beaches will remain long lasting impressions to any visitor. The colourful festivals, various types of dances, martial arts and wildlife sanctuaries are the other attractions. Ayurveda the 5000-year-old system of medicine is becoming very popular with tourists visiting Kerala.
This “God’s own country” is a narrow strip of land located on the south-western edge of the Indian sub continent. It is sandwiched between the Western Ghats mountain chain range on the East and the Arabian Sea on the west.
Legend say that Parashurama, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu threw his axe into the sea from Gokarnam (present day Mangalore) and it is believed the sea retreated till where the axe fell to give birth to Kerala.

Day 01: RRIVE COCHIN
Morning: On arrival in Cochin airport, meet and greet by our representative and transfer to hotel. Afternoon: Guided tour of Cochin. Evening: Attend Kathakali dance performance.
Cochin the palmgreen commercial town of Kerala has one of the finest natural harbours in the world. A town with a hoary past, Cochin is the gateway to Kerala. The Jewish Synagogue – built in 1568 AD contains Grand Scrolls of the Old Testament and the copper plates containing the privileges granted to the Jews by the Cochin rulers. The floor of the synagogue is paved with exquisite Chinese hand painted tiles. The Dutch Palace was built by the Portuguese and presented to the Cochin Raja in 1555 AD. 17th century murals depicting scenes from the Indian epic, the Ramayana can be seen here. St Francis Church, built originally by the Portuguese in 1510 AD is believed to be the first church built by Europeans in India. Vasco da Gama was originally buried here. The Chinese fishing nets can be seen at the entrance of the harbour. The Chinese through trade contact taught this technique of catching fish .

Day 02 : COCHIN / MUNNAR
Morning: Drive to Munnar (135 kms/04½ hrs) and on arrival in Munnar, check in at hotel. Afternoon: Visit tea plantations.
Munnar(1,524 M), is the highest town of Kerala, with a cool, bracing climate exuding an old-world charm. The atmosphere is fragrant with extensive tea and cardamom plantations. There are enchanting high ranges, lakes and streams and beautiful view of low-lying clouds and the mist filled valleys.

Day 03 :IN MUNNAR
Morning: Tour of Munnar visiting Eravikulam National Park where you can see the very rare mountain goat, locally called teh Nilgiri Tahr. Pothamedu – view of tea, coffee and cardamom plantaions and breath taking view of hills and lush mountains.

Day 04: MUNNAR / PERIYAR
Early Morning: Drive to Periyar (100 kms/03 hrs) and on arrival, check in at hotel. Afternoon: Boat ride in Lake Periyar to watch wildlife. Later visit Kumily spice market to see and buy spices.

Periyar Tiger Reserve, 777 sq. km in area is set in a rich, mixed deciduous forest, interspersed with open areas of tall grass. Periyar has a splendid artificial lake dotted with snags of dead wood, which provide a perch for waterbirds; darter, grey heron, egret and kingfisher. It is one of the finest habitats for the Asiatic elephant. These enormous mammals swim in the waters and streams and usually they can be observed during the boat ride. Periyar also holds, apart from Tiger leopard, sambar, wild dog, barking deer, the lion tailed macaque, the Nilgiri langur. The forest harbours a variety of woodland birds. Boat travel is the only means of transport in the Sanctuary.

Day 05 : PERIYAR / KUMARAKOM
Morning: Drive to Kumarakom (125 kms/03 hrs) and on arrival check in at a lake facing resort. Rest of the day free to visit Kumarakom bird sanctuary or independent activities.

Day 06: HOUSE BOAT
Morning Switch over to House Boat and cruise along the backwaters towards Alleppey passing through villages, paddy fields, markets and other sites.

The cruise is through `Kuttanad’ literally meaning the land, which is lower than the sea level but is kept intact by its bunds and dikes. It is the `rice bowl’ of Kerala. The rice fields are very beautiful and this lush land and surrounds governs the placid way of life of the people who live on the backwaters.

Day 07: ARRIVE ALLEPPEY
Morning: On arrival in Alleppey disembark from HouseBoat and check in at a resort. Rest of the day free to visit the village markets, temples, and churches or to relax on the lakefront.

Day 08: ALLEPPEY / KOVALAM
Morning: Drive to Kovalam enroute stop at Trivandrum (190-kms/04½ hrs) and on arrival in Kovalam, check in at a beach resort. Rest of the day to relax at the beach or indulge in Ayurvedic massages.

Kovalam is a sheltered bay endowed with unusual beauty, located on the magnificent Arabian Sea coast. This natural bay is a safe sea-pool, free from high waves and surges. The 30 kms drive from the Tiruvanantapuram airport to the beach through groves of palms is refreshing. It is an ideal place to swim, sunbathe and perhaps enjoy the ancient rites of an Ayurvedic massage and oil bath.

Day 09: IN KOVALAM
Full day free on the beach. Optional excursion to Kanyakumari (87 kms)

Kanyakumari (87 kms)  the land’s end of India, is also known as Cape Comorin. It is the southernmost tip of the subcontinent, where the waters of the Bay of Bengal, the Arabian sea and the Indian Ocean meet. It is famous for its fabulous sunrises and sunsets. Off the coast on an imposing rock, is the Vivekananda Memorial.

Padmanabhapuram was the capital of the Maharajas of Travancore. Their erstwhile Palace known as the Padmanabapuram Palace is a splendid example of traditional Kerala architecture. It has beautiful mural paintings and elaborate woodwork. The Palace complex consists of elegant buildings with steep tiled roofs and intricate wood-carving and small courtyards.

At Suchindram , on the way to Kanyakumari , is the great Temple dedicated to Brahma Vishnu and Siva . This was where Indra performed penance and was cleansed. The temple here is known for its intricate stone carvings.

Day 01: Arrive Paro by Air & transfer to Thimphu ( 55km, 1 ½ hrs drive )
The flight to Paro is one of the most spectacular in entire Himalayas. Whether flying along the Himalayan range from Kathmandu or over the foothills from Kolkatta, the journey offers fascinating views and an exciting descent into the Kingdom. Bhutan’s first gift to you as you disembark from the aircraft will be cool, clean fresh mountain air. After immigration formalities and baggage collection, you will be met by our representative and welcomed to Bhutan.

Afterwards drive to Thimphu, the capital town of Bhutan with en-route stop at Chuzom, the confluence of Thimphu and Paro rivers. Three different style of stupas ; Tibetan, Nepalese and Bhutanese adorn this confluence. Shortly before reaching Chuzom, you will see on your left Tschogang Lhakhang, “the temple of the excellent horse”. It is a private temple, built in 15th century, as the result of visitation from Balaha, the excellent horse, a manifestation of Chenrezig, the compassionate Buddha.

Thimphu, earlier a small settlement was developed in to a town and became the new capital of Bhutan. The city sprawls across the western slopes of the Wang Chuu river valley, with several government offices located around Trashichoe dzong, the 17th Century fortress monastery is today the seat of Bhutanese government. The main thoroughfare is lined with shops, restaurants, retail arcades and public buildings.

Day 02: Thimphu
Breakfast at the Hotel , after which proceed for sightseeing of the following places , starting with a visit to the National Library ( Closed on weekends) , which houses an extensive collection of priceless Buddhist manuscripts, some dating back several hundred years , as well as modern Academic books mainly on Himalayan culture and religion .

Followed by a visit to Textile (Closed on Sunday) and Folk Heritage Musuem (halfday on weekend) – both of which opened in 2001 provides a fascinating insight into the Bhutanese material culture and way of life .

Later in Thimphu , sightseeing of the following :

Visit King’s Memorial Chorten continuously circumambulated by people, murmuring mantras and spinning their prayer wheels. Construction of this landmark was the idea of Bhutan’s third king, His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuk (“the father of modern Bhutan”) who has wished to erect monument to world peace and prosperity. Completed in 1974 after his untimely death, it serves both as a memorial to the Late King and as a monument to peace.

Also visit to Trashichhoe dzong, “fortress of the glorious religion”. This is the centre of government and religion, site of monarch’s throne room and seat of Je Khenpo or Chief Abbot. Built in 1641 by the political and religious unifier of Bhutan, Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, it was reconstructed in 1960s in traditional Bhutanese manner, without nails or architectural plans.

End the day with a visit to the government-run Handicrafts Emporium and local crafts shops, to browse through example of Bhutan’s fine traditional arts. Here you can buy hand-woven textiles, thangkha paintings, masks, ceramics, slate and wood carvings, jewelry, interesting items made from local materials.

Day 03: Thimphu – Paro ( 55km, 1 ½ hrs drive )
Morning after breakfast drive to Paro : en route visit Simtokha Dzong. This dzong, built in 1627 is the oldest in Bhutan. It now houses the Institute for Language and Culture Studies.

The beautiful valley of Paro encapsulates within itself a rich culture, scenic beauty and hundreds of myths and legends. It is home to many of Bhutan’s oldest temples and monasteries, National Museum and country’s only airport. Mount. Chomolhari (7,314m) reigns in white glory at the northern end of the valley and its glacial water plunge through deep gorges to form Pa Chhu (Paro river). Paro is also one of the most fertile valley in the Kingdom producing a bulk of the locally famous red rice from its terraced fields.

Afternoon visit Ta Dzong, originally built as Watchtower, which now houses National Museum. The extensive collection includes antique thangkha paintings, textiles, weapons & armour, household objects and a rich assortment of natural and historic artifacts. After the visit walk down the trail to visit Rinpung Dzong, meaning (“fortress of the heap of jewels”), which has a long and fascinating history. Along the wooden galleries lining the inner courtyard are fine wall paintings illustrating Buddhist lore such as four friends, the old man of long life, the wheel of life, scenes from the life of Milarepa, Mount. Sumeru and other cosmic Mandala.

Day 04: Paro
Morning after breakfast Excursion to Taktshang Monastery (5hrs hike) – : It is one of the most famous of Bhutan’s monasteries, perched on the side of a cliff 900m above the Paro valley floor. It is said that Guru Rinpoche arrived here on the back of a tigress and meditated at this monastery and hence it is called ‘Tiger’s Nest’. This site has been recognised as a most sacred place and visited by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1646 and now visited by all Bhutanese at least once in their lifetime. On 19 April, 1998, a fire severely damaged the main structure of building but now this Bhutanese jewel has been restored to its original splendour.

Afternoon : Visit Kyichu Lakhang : It is one of the oldest and most sacred shrines of the Kingdom dating back to 7th century (the other is Jambey Lhakahng in
Bumthang). The lhakhang complex is composed of two temples. The first temple was built by Tibetan King, Songtsen Gampo in the 7th century and in 1968, H.M. Ashi Kesang, the Queen Mother of Bhutan, built the second temple in same original pattern.

Day 05 & 06: Depart
After breakfast leave for Fort Kuchman. 60kms/1hr drive. The Fort set atop a steep hill along what was once an integral Central Asian trade route. The two days spent in Kuchaman includes visit to local markets, but most importantly to understand the traditional livelihood and skills of the people living in and around the region. This includes those cobblers who make the famous Kuchaman Mojdi, The Kumhars who make unique pottery, traditional carpet weavers and bangle makers. Our trip provides an opportunity to get to know the workers and their environment better and helps to shop responsibly. One of the evenings, we can also go for a short train ride closer to the Sambhar salt lake.


BHUTAN – 05 Nights / 06 Days

Day 01 Arrive Paro by Druk Air
The flight into Bhutan takes you over the great Himalayas, offering the scintillating scenery of the world’s highest glacial peaks. As you enter Paro valley, you will see the silvery Pa Chu (Paro river) meandering down the valley, the Paro Dzong (fortress) and Ta Dzong (watch tower). On arrival, received by our representative and transfer to Thimphu ( 55 km, 2 hours ) , the modern capital town of Bhutan.

Day 02: Thimphu
Today’s full day of sightseeing in Thimphu valley includes, visit to ;

National Library(closed on Sat & Sun), which holds a vast collection of ancient Buddhist texts and manuscripts, some dating back several hundred years, as well as modern academic books mainly on Himalayan culture and religion;

Textile and Folk Heritage Museum: These museums, both of which opened in 2001, provide fascinating insights into Bhutanese material culture and way of life.

Handicrafts Emporium ; it displays wide assortment of beautifully handwoven and crafted products.

Memorial Chorten ; the beautiful stupa built in the memory of Bhutan’s third King. The paintings and statues inside
the monument provide a deep insight into Buddhist philosophy.

Trashichhodzong ; the beautiful fortress/monastery which houses Secretariate building, King’s Throne room and

other government’s offices. It is also the summer residence of Chief Abbot.

Day 03: Thimphu / Punakha (75km, 3hrs drive )
After breakfast, drive up to Dochu-la pass (3,088m/ 10,130 ft) stopping briefly here to take in the view and admire the chorten, mani wall, and prayer flags which decorate the highest point on the road. If skies are clear, the following peaks can be seen from this pass (left to right): Masagang (7,158m), Tsendagang (6,960m), Terigang (7,060m ), Jejegangphugang (7,158 m ), Kangphugang (7,170 m ), Zongphugang (7, 060 m ), a table mountain that dominates the isolated region of Lunana – finally Gangkar puensum, the highest peak in Bhutan at 7,497m

On arrival, check into the Hotel . In the afternoon in Punakha , visit Punakha Dzong, a massive structure built at the junction of two rivers. It was the capital of Bhutan until 1955, and still serves as the winter residence of the monk body. The first King, Ugyen Wangchuck was crowned here in 1907. The fortress has withstood several damages from fire, earthquake and flood. The latest flood of Oct’ 1994 caused great damages to
the fortress but miraculously spared the statue of Buddha Jojampa. Followed by vist to local market.

Day 04: Punakha / Paro ( 125 km, 4.1/2 hours drive)
After breakfast drive to Paro . Upon arrival check in at the Hotel. Later visit TaDzong(closed on Sun & Mon), : once a watchtower, built to defend Rinpung Dzong during inter-valley wars of the 17th century, Ta Dzong was inaugurated as Bhutan’s National Museum in 1968. It holds fascinating collection of art, relics, religious thangkha paintings and Bhutan’s exquisite postage stamps. The museum circular shape augments its varied collection displayed over several floors Afterwards, walk down a hillside trail to visit Rinpung Dzong, which has a long and fascinating history. Built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal , the first spiritual and temporal ruler of Bhutan, the Dzong houses the monastic body of Paro, the office of the Dzongda (district administrative head) and Thrimpon (judge) of Paro district. The approach to the Dzong is through a traditional covered bridge called Nemi Zam. A walk through the bridge, over a stone inlaid path, offers a good view of the architectural wonder of the Dzong as well as life around it. It is also the venue of Paro Tshechu, held once a year in the spring.

Just before arriving Thimphu, visit Buddha Point (Kuensel Phodrang). Located at a short drive from Thimphu city centre, visitors can get a good overview of the Thimphu valley from the Buddha point (Kuensel Phodrang). You can pay your obeisance and offer prayers to the Buddha, the largest statue in the country and then walk around and take a glimpse of the valley.

Day 02:Thimphu
Thimphu, perhaps the most unusual capital city in the world, is the seat of government. This bustling town is home to Bhutan’s royal family, the civil servants, and foreign missions with representation in Bhutan. It is also the headquarters for a number of internationally funded development projects.

Morning visit to the National Library ( Closed on Weekends ) which houses an extensive collection of Buddhist literature, with some works dating back several hundred years.

Also visit the folk Heritage and National Textile Museums(Closed on Sundays) , a fascinating testimony of Bhutan’s living traditions.

Followed by a visit to Simply Bhutan – an exclusive project under the Bhutan Youth Development Fund . It is a living Museum and Studio encapsulating the cultural heritage of the Bhutanese people. The infrastructure portrays ancient Bhutanese architecture which is being lost to modernization .

Afternoon, in Thimphu visit the following : National Memorial Chorten. Drive further down to Punakha (alt. 1300m/4265ft) – Punakha served as the capital of Bhutan until and still it is the winter seat of Je Khenpo (the chief abbot). Blessed with temperate climate and owing to its natural drainage from Pho Chhu (male) and Mo Chhu (female) rivers, the Punakha valley produces abundant crops and fruits.

Afternoon in Punakha visit Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup Lhakhang nunnery:
Perched on a ridge amid pine trees and overlooking valleys of Punakha and Wangduephodrang, gleams the magnificent structures of Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup Lhakhang(Temple). The temple houses a 14-foot main bronze statue of Avalokiteshvara (Chenrigzig chagtong chentong). Other statues include those of Guru Padmasambawa, Gautama Buddha, Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel, Tsela Namsum, the 21 Taras and Tsepamay (Buddha of longevity). The Avalokiteshvara statue, one of the biggest in the country, is the handiwork of entirely local Bhutanese artisans.
The temple complex also houses a permanent higher learning and meditation centre for nuns where, apart from religious trainings, it provides life skill training such as tailoring, embroidery, statue making and thangka painting.

Day 04:Punakha

In the Morning in Punakha take a short excursion to Chimi Lakhang : situated on a hillock in the centre of the valley, is dedicated to Lama Drukpa Kuenley, who in the late 15th century used humour, songs and outrageous behaviour to dramatise his teachings and due to this also known as ‘Divine Madman’. This temple is also known as the temple of fertility. It is widely believed that couples who do not have children and wanting one, if they pray at this temple, they are usually blessed with a child very soon. It is about 30 minute walk across field from the road to the temple. The trail leads across rice fields to the tiny settlement of Pana, meaning ‘field’. It then follows a tiny stream downhill to Yoaka and across more fields before making a short climb to Chimi Lhakhang.

After lunch visit the Punakha Dzong, Built strategically at the junction of Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal to serve as the religious and administrative centre of the region, Punakha Dzong has played an important role in Bhutan’s history. Damaged by four catastrophic fires and an earthquake, the Dzong has been fully restored by the present King.

This site has been recognised as a most sacred place and visited by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1646 and now visited by all Bhutanese at least once in their lifetime. On 19 April, 1998, a fire severely damaged the main structure of building but now this Bhutanese jewel has been restored to its original splendour.

Afternoon : Kyichu Lakhang : It is one of the oldest and most sacred shrines of the Kingdom dating back to 7th century (the other is Jambey Lhakahng in Bumthang). The lhakhang complex is composed of two temples. The first temple was built by Tibetan King, Songtsen Gampo in the 7th century and in 1968, H.M. Ashi Kesang, the Queen Mother of Bhutan, built the second temple in same original pattern.

Standard hotels in Bhutan are mostly family run hotels with inventory ranging between 20-30 rooms and categorized close to 3 Star by international standards.
The hotels offered in this proposal are selected for their best location, service and over all superiority. However, due to limited availability of skilled manpower in hospitality sector, service standards do not match international standards.

BHUTAN VISA
In order to process Bhutan visa we require clear readable colour copy of passport (page containing passport no and face picture in JPEG or PDF format) at least 30 days prior to date of entry into Bhutan. Remaining validity of passport should be minimum 6 months from the date of entry into Bhutan (excluding the travelling month).

* Guests are required to have multiple entry visa for India if they are travelling to Bhutan from India and again re-entering into India from Bhutan. Please also check if your Indian visa has ‘2 months re-entry restriction’. If restriction has been stamped in your Indian visa, then you will have to get it endorsed from the Indian embassy in Thimphu for a nominal charge . For this however, you will need to be in Thimphu on working days, Mon – Fri during office hours excluding Govt holidays . Itinerary:

Day 01: Jaipur
Arrival into Jaipur. Transfer to a luxury home stay near airport. Owners of this luxury homestay also runs an NGO to support the HIV positive children in Jaipur. The host’s insight into the culture, tradition and history of Rajasthan and some of the social issues that she is trying to address within her personal capacity is an great entrance to Rajasthan as a traveller.

Day 02: Jaipur
Visit the city palace and look up for the flag and if you see it you know the Maharaja is in the palace! Walk around the uniquely constructed city, and understand the history of the place. Option to visit Amber fort.

Day 03: Jaipur – Roopengarh
Drive to Roopengarh-130kms/2.5hrs drive. En-route stop at Bagru, known for its block printed textiles. This is a good opportunity to see craftsmen / women at work. Proceed to Roopengarh Fort. Afternoon: A short drive from the hotel, you can reach the traditional living spaces of the artists. This evening introduces one to the rural Rajasthan.

Day 04: Roopengarh-Tilonia-Roopengarh
Rajasthan is truly a state with contradictions. From Havelis to Rich home-stays to Heritage Palaces to Luxury Hotels, Rajasthan is also one of the poorest states in the country. If any one wonders about how such contradictions can exist in a place, the visit to Tilonia (http://www.barefootcollege.org/) is important for us to explain the story of the ‘bare-foot-soldiers’ who are making massive social and environmental changes using local knowledge and resources. From mask making to workshops on puppetry and interaction with local people, the visit gives ample opportunity to understand the dynamics of the state that is Rajasthan that is far away from the tourism circuits. Return back to Hotel at Roopengarh .

Day 05 & 06: Fort Kuchman
After breakfast leave for Fort Kuchman. 60kms/1hr drive. The Fort set atop a steep hill along what was once an integral Central Asian trade route. The two days spent in Kuchaman includes visit to local markets, but most importantly to understand the traditional livelihood and skills of the people living in and around the region. This includes those cobblers who make the famous Kuchaman Mojdi, The Kumhars who make unique pottery, traditional carpet weavers and bangle makers. Our trip provides an opportunity to get to know the workers and their environment better and helps to shop responsibly. One of the evenings, we can also go for a short train ride closer to the Sambhar salt lake.

Day 07 & 08: Makrana
The evenings spend in Makarana takes you to the “basti’s of these artists to do workshops on puppetry. The focus of workshops will be to explore how puppetry can be used in the modern days to convey the message of literacy, health, hygiene and primary education. The guests gets to make these puppet and learn from the masters who are traditional artists. Evening with the Bhopa community: The feudal stories of Papuji Rathore is sung by the members of Bhopa community in the evenings post sunset. As typical of our holidays, the performances are not organised in hotels or resorts, instead we invite our travellers to our villages to meet and interact with the communities and understand more about their social backgrounds and enjoy the ritualistic traditions.

Day 09: Makrana – Mandore
Drive to Mandore near Jodhpur – 270kms/6.5hrs drive. Arrive Mandore and proceed to Mandore Guest House. Mandore guest house provides great opportunity to work with volunteers of the NGO supported by the family. If you could let us know about any particular skills you would want to make use of during your travel, we can connect you with the local partner who will match the skills, provided there is a need for such voluntary engagement. Possibilities to visit the magnificent Mehrangarh Fort and the bazaar.

Day 10: Mandore
Various activities are possible at Mandore ranging from Bird watching and cycling to nearby village to see the rural projects. Jeep Safari to Bishnoi village is also offered by the hosts at Mandore Guest House.

Drive to Siana( 120km/3.5hrsdrive), a quaint little town, a less explored destination of Rajasthan. Hosts are famous for their hospitality.

Morning depart by surface for Udaipur enroute visiting the Jain temples at Ranakpur built in the 15th century are situated in the lovely valley of the Aravali. Its surrounding is quiet and picturesque. Ranakpur has grand structures and beautiful sculpture. There are 1444 pillars in the temple and none of them are similar. The magic of light and shade is really awe inspiring. Surya Temple and other Jain Temples are side attractions. On arrival at check-in at the hotel.

Day 12: In Udaipur
Go on a village walk and explore the carpentery culture of Siana. Visit a traditional carpenter’s house to see their pieces of work. Drive across the dry river bed and meet with the Rabari community, the traditional shepherds of this region. Go on a panther trail at dusk and come back to immerse yourself in stargazing.

Day 13: Siana – Udaipur
The Aravallis welcome your entry into Udaipur via Ranakpur temples( 180km/5hrs) and enjoy the changing landscapes on the way. Stroll along the lakes and the narrow lanes, each with a unique character.

Day 14: Udaipur – Delhi/Mumbai
You can reminisce your trip over a lunch by the lake. Walk around the bazaar streets and take back some wooden toys and authentic silver accessories. Depart for Delhi/Mumbai by flight.

Afternoon tour of Jaipur. Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan was given a colour coat of pink a century ago in honour of a visiting Prince. Built by Maharaja Jai Singh, the notable astronomer, this city is 260 years old. Visit Maharaja’s City Palace, the Observatory & Ram Niwas Gardens. These world famous temples were built by the Chandelas between 950 AD & 1050 AD. The important ones are Chaunset Yogini Kali Temple, the Mahadev Temple, Chitragupta or Bharatji Temple with a lovely image of 11 headed Vishnu, Vishvanath & Nandi Temples, Lakshmana Temple, Visha Temple of Shiva, which is the largest & most typical of temples. Visit the Eastern group of Temples. Parasvanath Temple is the only exisiting Jain Temple at Khajuraho and has excellent sculptures on the outer walls of the Sanctum. The Javeri Temple is dedicated to Vishnu. The other temples in this group are those dedicated to Brahma, Yamuna and Adinath.

Day 12: Khajuraho – Bandhavgarh
After an early breakfast drive to Bandhavgarh and on arrival check in at a jungle resort. Afternon a game drive in the park. Bandhavgarh is a must see destination on a wildlife travel itinerary of India. Bandhavgarh National Park is known for having the highest density of Tigers of any National Park in India. It is also known for its population of rare White Tigers.

Morning: Transfer to railway station to board the train for Gwalior. Assistance on arrival and transfer to the hotel. Afternoon City Tour of Gwalior, visiting the Man Mandir , Gujari Mahal (today an archaeological museum ), The Fort, Temples of Saas-Bahu, Teli Ka Mandir, Jai Vilas Palace, Tomb of Gaus Mohammad and the Mausoleum of Tansen. Evening visit to fort for sound and light show.

Day 05: Gwalior – Jhansi
Morning: Transfer to railway station to board the train for Jhansi. Assistance on arrival and transfer to the hotel. Afternoon City Tour of Orchha. Orchha’s grandeur has been captured in stone, frozen in time and a rich legacy to the ages. For, on this medieval city, the hand of time has rested lightly and the palaces and the temples built by its Bundela rulers in the 16th and 17th century retain much of their prestine perfection. Jahangir Mahal, a tiered palace crowned by graceful chhatries has a spectacular view of soaring temple spires and cenotaphs.

Day 06: Jhansi – Bhopal
Morning: Transfer to railway station to board the train for Bhopal. Assistance on arrival and transfer to hotel. Afternoon City Tour of Bhopal. Visiting the Upper Lake, Lower Lake, Laxmi Narayan Temple, Birla Museum, Kilol Park, Kamla Park, Moti Masjid, Sadar Manzil and Taj-ul-Masjid. Drive past Vidhan Sabha, Tagore Memorial and the National Archives of India.

Day 07: In Bhopal
Full Day excursion to Sanchi (58 km) which has distinction of having the finest specimens of almost all Buddhist architectural forms, Stupa, Chaitya,Temples and Monasteries dating from 3rd century BC. Visit three important Stupas with circular domes and railing around them. Also visit Ashoka Pillar, Gupta temple built in the 4th century and Great Bowl carved of one piece of stone. The museum displays number of sculptures found in the area.

Day 08: Bhopal – Indore
Morning free for independent activities. Afternoon transfer to railway station to board train to Indore and on arrival transfer to hotel.

Day 09: In Indore
Full day excursion to Ujjain, the city which traces its origin to the very dawn of Indian history and has a great tradition of learning and culture. It was used as the base for calculations of Hindu astronomy, astrology and geography. Visit the Temple of Mahakaleshwar, Observatory of masonry, Jantar Mantar, Bathing Ghats of Shipra river and the Gopal Mandir, a 19th century temple of Maratha-Style architecture.

Day 10: Indore – Delhi
Morning: Free for independent activities. Afternoon: Transfer to railway station to board overnight train to Delhi. Overnight on board train

Day 11:Arrive Delhi – Depart
Early Morning: On arrival in Delhi, transfer to a city hotel for wash and change (lobby use) and breakfast. Rest of the day free for shopping / packing. Later transfer to international airport for onward destination.




Caving & Trekking

Destinations Covered : Guwahati – Cherrapunjee – Krem Mawmluh Cave – Shillong

Hills of Meghalaya are home to some of the longest and deepest caves in South Asia. In this tour we go caving inside Krem Mawmluh, a seven Km long cave and also trek to Living root Double decked bridge at Cherrapunjee.

Day 01
: Arrive Guwahati
On arrival in Guwahati, assistance and transfer to hotel. Rest of the day free to explore the town.

Day 02: Guwhati – Cherrapunjee
After an early breakfast visit Kamakhya Temple. During the festival of Ambubashi more than a million devotees throng this holy place. Return to hotel after paying homage to the mother Goddess Kamakhya. Later drive to Cherrapunjee, the wettest region in the world receiving highest rainfall. Visiting en-route Borapani Umiam Lake, a majestic placid lake with its surrounding sylvan hills.

Day 03: Cherrapunjee – Krem Mawmluh Cave – Cherrapunjee
This cave is located half a km west of Cherrapunjee adjacent to the small hamlet of Mawmluh. The cave has five-river passage with impressive proportions. The cave has a length of over seven Kms. Also visit the Waterfalls of Cherrapunjee.

Day 04: In Cherrapunjee
An engineering marvel of Indigenous Khasi Tribesmen who weaved the roots of the ereca tree to make bridges across streams. Return to Chera Tourist Resort after a picnic lunch at the bridge. Evening at leisure to experience the breathtaking views of the Khasi hills and the plains of Bangladesh

Day 05: Cherrapunjee – Shillong
After breakfast drive to Shillong enroute visit Elephanta falls and Shillong peak for some breathtaking views.

Day 06: In Shillong
Morning enjoy a city tour of Shillong. Admire the beauty of Shillong. It is erstwhile capital of undivided Assam; present North-East and home to the Khasi Highland tribes.

Day 07: Shillong – Guwahati – Depart
Drive back to Guwahati to take your onward flight.

Day 02 : Guwahati – Jorhat
After an early breakfast drive to Jorhat, the tea-capital of Assam. On arrival at Jorhat, you will be accommodated in the Thengal Mansion, a historic ancestral house of a Tea Planter amidst an Asssamese village, 15 kms from Jorhat. The 72-year old Thangal Mansion is to answer the queries on Assamese culture and tradition. After lunch and rest, take a walk in a nearby village to see the simplicity of their lives.

Day 03 : Jorhat – Sibasagar – Jorhat
Explore Remains of the Ahom Kingdom: After an early breakfast drive to Sibsagar to visit remains of Ahom Kingdom who ruled Assam for 500 years before giving in to British. Visit to Tai Ahom Museum and the Maidams (Mummy like structures) of Ahom kings Burial grounds at Charaideo.

Day 04 : Jorhat – Toklai Research Station – Kaziranga Natioanl Park
After breakfast, visit Toklai Research Station to know anything and everything about tea-plantation. After lunch drive to Kaziranga, the home of the one horned rhino.

Day 05
: In Kaziranga
Early morning (5:30 am) explore central Range of Kaziranga National Park on Elephant Safari. On return explore the eastern range on a jeep safari. Return for lunch and proceed to Western Range of Kaziranga National Park on jeep.

Day 06: Kaziranga – Guwahati
After an early morning safari and breakfast drive to Guwahati. In the evening take a cruise on mighty Brahmaputra River.

: Depart
After breakfast day at leisure till you depart for your onward journey.
